About
Us
The Tara Umpires Association was started in 1973
with four members. One of those four is still
active and is a member of the Board of Directors.
Tara became organized as a chartered group in
1974 and has grown steadily since.
In 2004, Tara had 109 members. Membership is
by application and all members are required to
undergo regular and scheduled training. Tara has
a Constitution and Bylaws that prescribe the conduct
of members, method and order of business and officiating
requirements. Chartered by the Georgia High School
Association to officiate high school baseball
and fast pitch softball, members of Tara officiate
at many other levels including American Legion
and ISA fast pitch softball.
Tara is managed by a Board of Directors consisting
of the President, Vice President, Secretary-Treasurer,
Booking Agent, Umpire-in-Chief of Baseball, Umpire-in-Chief
of Softball and four At-Large Directors. The four
At-Large directors serve a two year term. Two
of the At-Large Directors are elected in even
years and two elected in the odd years. All other
members of the Board are elected to one-year terms.
The board meets regularly once a month.
Our members consider Tara the finest umpires
association in the state and everyone takes a
great deal of pride in their membership.
