How to Join

Eligibility

To become a member of Tara, applicants must be of good moral character and reputation. Persons that desire membership are required to complete and sign the Tara Membership Application. Applications with all dues and fees must be submitted to the Secretary-Treasurer and approved by the Board of Directors. Applications may be submitted at any time during the year however, all members are required to complete an application-update on an annual basis.

In addition, members in good standing must meet additional qualifications to officiate at certain levels and venues.

To officiate any sport under the jurisdiction of the Georgia High School Association (GHSA), the applicant must:

> Be at least eighteen (18) years of age and complete a registration form prescribed by the GHSA.
> Satisfactorily complete the GHSA officiating clinics.
> Submit to and successfully pass written tests prior to the start of the respective season.
> Pay GHSA annual registration fees for each sport (baseball & softball).

Some parks and leagues require a criminal history background-check. These background checks are conducted by the individual recreation agency between the umpire and the agency. Members will be notified when they are required to submit to a criminal history background check.

Dues: To cover operating costs, Tara members pay annual dues.

Fees: The GHSA charges every umpire a fee to officiate each sport each season. GHSA regulations prohibit individual umpires from submitting payment directly to GHSA. Therefore, umpires make the fee payment to Tara and Tara pays GHSA in one lump sum. Fees must be paid with the submission of your application at the start of the calendar year AND at the start of the softball season.
